“Happy are those who forget!” - one of the most enduring survival mottos in German history, as old as it is successful. In a witty talk-show farce, the Golden Gorkis explore this formula for success with a mix of curiosity and irony. Together with the famous entertainer and Jewish Holocaust survivor Hans Rosenthal, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2025, their latest work delves into the “eloquent silence” within both personal and German history - into mechanisms of repression, fractured self-images, wars, and catastrophes.
The Golden Gorkis immerse themselves in a society that forgets - one where far too much seems to be repeating itself “Dalli Dalli…”-style, and where the power of repression has long since begun to celebrate its own rehabilitation.

This work is centered around three materials: metal, plaster and gauze and how this elements interact and influence each other. I created intuitive sculptures, drawings and prints which represent in a playful manner their interconnection and character. The divergent materials converge in various ways, creating new and unusual situations. The ratio of weight to lightness is reversed, so that the plaster is not anymore the structural material but rather seems to be threaded onto the steel. Concurrently to this imaginative sculptures, I have further explored the materials by creating monotypes and material prints.
